In collaboration with the Karen Hilltribe Trust, we financed the installation of a drinking water system and latrines to give the Karen communities in the Mae Hong Son region access to hygiene through water sanitation. The holistic approach we took allowed the indigenous people to participate in the construction process and therefore take ownership of the facilities while becoming familiar with using them. This leads to better community cohesion and project sustainability, which will ensure long-term positive impacts on the villagers’ health as well as on gender equality, the environment and education.
